| There are two species of echinacea used commonly today in the making of herbal medicines, echinacea angustifolia and echinacea purpurea.
Michael Tierra, C.A.,N.D. in his book The Way of Herbs says this: Echinacea angustifolia is probably more potent and is most commonly mentioned as the plant used in traditional Native American medicine. Both have similar properties. However, Echinacea purpurea is more readily available and about one third the price of Echinacea angustifolia. Thus most herb stores will provide products made from Echinacea purpurea. I personally have used both species and in my mind there is no comparison. I prefer echinacea angustifolia. | "The echinacea root above was taken from my 1999 Harvest. All of my echinacea is organically grown and turned into echinacea extract on my farm. The echinacea is dug and processed into extract in the same day." Terry | |||||||||
