Teardrop Farm has been 100% organic since 1991. Prior to that my dad grew a large vegetable garden and used manure and some synthetic fertilizers but the ground has never had heavy doses of any herbicide or pesticides. The farm uses a soil consultant out of Fairmont Minnesota, Dan Skow. Soil testing is done regularly to maintain a balance of micro and macro nutrients in the soil. Ground rock dust and fish meal are used to provide the back bone of our nutrient needs.

Composting is also very important for the biology of the soil. In the compost piles we insert biodynamic preparations according to the instructions given by Rudolf Steiner.

The BD preps enhance the properties of the compost pile improving the utilization of nutrient uptake by the plants. Research has shown biodynamics to be a very effective method of soil husbandry. Biodynamic preps meets all organic standards for organic certification.

Unfortunately our application for an independent certification of the farm being organic was applied for too late this year. However, a piece of paper does not make the quality of echinacea that comes from Teardrop Farm. Ever bottle is guaranteed to your satisfaction. From the year 2000 on, we will have independent certification.
